E-LabPlus is a web application that can rapidly be implemented and integrated to your organization infrastructure.
The application contains all the back-end connections required to securely access and write data to the LabPlus database as well as a sample front-end that can easily be customized to meet your organization graphical standards.

- Analysis request creation, which can be used to remotely log samples and assign parameters to the samples, which is often referred to as pre-log.
- View the status of a request and its samples.

Platform
The E-LabPlus web application is developed using Microsoft's web technologies. It is developed with Active Server Pages (ASP), server components and stored procedures.
The application requires a Windows 2000 Server running Internet Information Services (IIS5 or higher).
3-Layers Architecture
Most web application developed with Microsoft technology use a 3-Layers architecture. The purpose of this type of architecture is to isolate each part of the application which provides a better scalability and improved security.
The first part is the data layer. This layer contains the database (i.e. LabPlus server). In order to achieve the best possible performance the database is accessed through stored procedures specifically designed for the E-LabPlus web application. For a production application, the data layer should always be on a dedicated server.
The second part is the application layer. This layer is the place where the business logic components are executed. An analogy would be the interface server that performs results calculations and validations. Components are mainly used before data is written to the database. In most cases, this layer will be running on the web server (third part).
The third part is the presentation layer. This layer is the web server. It processes the requests made by the browser and generates requests to the other Layers. Once the information is collected, the web server creates the html page that is displayed in the browser.

Data Security

- In LabPlus, the security is defined directly at the database level. Thus, data confidentiality is protected by the security defined with the LabPlus Security Manager and only people authorized to access certain data will be able to view it.

Web Application and Data Transmission Security

- It is possible to use the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) technology to encrypt the data being transmitted.
- For added security, it is also possible to use the web application only on a trusted network (Intranet) and thus ensure that users are authenticated by the Operating System before they are granted access.
